This remarkable museum, which is housed in a turn-of-the-century spinning mill, commemorates the area's long industrial history, particularly its involvement with wool, machinery, steam engines, and horses. Outside, the Mill Yard bustles with horse rides, activities, and labor exhibits that recall a bygone era. Nearby Moorside House is the home of the first mill-owner, John Moore, and remains adorned with period furnishings.

Named "Best Museum of Industrial or Social History" in 1988, this world-class facility spotlights technological advancements in the field of coloration. Sights include interactive displays, special exhibits, children's workshops, archival material, and a textiles gallery.

Established in 1888, much of this important collection dates back to 1820. The 20th century is also well-represented and, with the exception of London, it is considered the best of its kind in the country. Additional exhibits feature works of French post-impressionism, the Victorian period, and contemporary art. Also on hand is the Craft Shop and Design Gallery, which feature applied art, ceramics, jewelry, and limited editions.

This museum is famous for the Egyptian mummy that has resided in Leeds for nearly two centuries. Fascinating exhibits devoted to Greco-Roman and Egyptian culture, geology, natural history, and archeology are available for the public to enjoy.
